St. Mark’s Sr. Sec. Public School, Meera Bagh

Enumerate the USPs of the eduDESTINATION in which your K-12 Education Institution is located? Why should the students from far off places consider your very eduDESTINATION?

Education is a crucial enabler which helps people realise their dreams and desires. Our school lies in New Delhi, the capital city of India. Delhi can be easily called as the eduDestination for it provides the best for students. The Government of Delhi believes that quality education is a necessity, not a luxury hence it has created an environment which is very conducive for students.

The city is student friendly with some of the top engineering colleges in India — IIT Delhi, NIT Delhi, Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Netaji Subhas University of Technology, Delhi Technological University (formerly DCE), Delhi Institute of Tool Engineering (formerly TRTC) and Jamia Millia Islamia.

Delhi also boasts several private and few government engineering institutions too. With good and economical accommodation and a good transport system, students can travel to various parts of the city quickly and easily. With all major business houses having their Main office here in the city, employment opportunities are in plenty.

In what all ways has your eduBRAND augmented the brand of your locality-cum-city/town as an enthralling eduDESTINATION?

When it comes to adding to the brand value of the city, my school’s contribution is in plenty. One of the major contributions is in the field of Theatre. With more than 30 plays being produced in my school, my school churns out brilliant actors, directors and writers. It will not be boastful to say that the showbiz has got the talent of Raashi Khanna, Barun Sobti, Karan Wahi and Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia ( all actors ) , Palavi Mehta ( writer ), Abhay Vats ( Assistant Director & Editor ). Sports, especially Cricket is yet another area. We have given Shikhar Dhawan , a flamboyant cricketer to Team India.

What are the key policy prescriptions you would like to give to the vast array of concerned governmental institutional base towards the creation of a SMART eduDESTINATION leading upto the colossal brand of eduINDIA?

Although Delhi offers many privileges for students to come from very far off places to study here, there are many things that can be arranged, subsidised and given to make the city a SMART eduDestination.

Accommodation can be made much more cheaper. Students should get free passes to travel. This will help them manage their finances. Of course, safety is another issue that needs to be taken care of. The government should have departments to take care of the needs of the children coming from far off places. If the needs are taken care of, Delhi will have many more students from far off places.

How do you propose to further enhance the brand of your city as a pre-eminent eduDESTINATION so as to bolster the cause of eduINDIA?

My school is a great brand ambassador for eduIndia. This is because we have partner schools in almost every part of the world like Italy, France, Portugal, Singapore, Philippines, Japan, Russia and Sri Lanka. This quality of networking and collaborating has made my school a pre-eminent Destination for exchange programs. This leads us to partner with Travel offices to give the students a taste of other parts of our beautiful country. Also working with leading organisations both private and government to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals initiated by the United Nations is a remarkable way to enhance the brand of Delhi as a pre-eminent eduDESTINATION so as to bolster the cause of eduINDIA.

Enlightened Electorate

Elections are an integral component of a thriving democracy.  Like Examinations their integrity and importance need to be duly impregnated into the psyche of the electorate.  Educational Institutions at large have thereby the sacred responsibility of nurturing this very hands-on competence of its students in addition to the teaching of Civics/Political Science within the Classrooms.

In every election, voter and civic education are necessary to ensure that all constituents— men and women alike —understand their rights, their political system, the contests they are being asked to decide, and how and where to vote.

For an election to be successful and democratic, voters must understand their rights and responsibilities, and must be sufficiently knowledgeable and well informed to cast ballots that are legally valid and to participate meaningfully in the voting process. Voter and civic education is thereby a critical component of an all round educational regime as elections do have an unprecedented impact on the future of the constituency, state as well as a the country depending on the type of election being contested. It’s thereby important to extend this very aspect to create a much larger Enlightened Electorate.

Students of Class 6-12 shall be eligible to participate in this one of its kind unique programme which shall entail the essence of CIVICS Curriculum in an interesting activity oriented format which makes these learnings a life long asset.  Faculty Coordinators need to be deputed to carry on the various activities within and outside the classrooms on a weekly basis.
